ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
This year, the on-site 43rd Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) was successfully held on 7-8 June 2023 at Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. The meeting was co-organised by the AFSRB Secretariat and hosted by the National Food Agency (NFA) of the Republic of Indonesia, as the national focal point. This is the first in-person meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting was participated by ASEAN country members and related organisation, for instance, ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Secretariat, ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East ASIA (ERIA).
On 24 May 2023, the APTERR Secretariat team led by Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, together with the AFSIS Secretariat led by Dr. Waraporn Saelee, and staff from Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) of Thailand attended the virtual ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) Intersessional Meeting at the APTERR Secretariat’s Meeting room. The virtual meeting was held by AFSRB Secretariat and Indonesia, and was participated by ASEAN Member countries as well as other related organisations, for instance, the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat.
General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn together with Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI) Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum and Administrative Staff Ms. Passawee Sumalu participated in the 21st ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Focal Point Meeting on 17 – 18 May 2023 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The APTERR Secretariat team led by General Manager Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn together with Japanese Expert Mr. Akinori Ando visited the Rice Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand on 2 May 2023 to attend a briefing on country’s rice situation and agricultural projects in supporting farmers and promoting a sustainable agriculture by Director Dr. Chitnucha Buddhaboon of the Bureau of Rice Policy and Strategy of Rice Department.
The 11th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council, the first onsite Council Meeting after the COVID-19 pandemic, was held on 25-26 April 2023 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (ROK). Organised by the APTERR Secretariat and hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the ROK, the meeting marked the achievements of APTERR, including a successful improvement of its operations to enhance regional food security through the APTERR mechanism.
