ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
The APTERR Secretariat, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), successfully co-organised a hybrid workshop on ‘Building Resilient Rice Market and Robust Policy Framework in Asia’ on 24 January 2025. The event convened representatives from the APTERR member countries, food security-related organistations, and academic institutions, fostering insightful discussions on strengthening food security and stabilising rice markets through effective policy strategies.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, welcomed Mr. Toshiki Tojo, Deputy Director of Grain Tade and Operation Division, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, and Mrs. Atsuko Matsuoka, Section Chief of Grain Tade and Operation Division, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, to the APTERR Secretariat office on 19 December 2024 for discussions on the Tier 1 and Tier 3 programmes.
Dr. Choomject Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, led his team in a visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) of Lao PDR on 6 November 2024 to discuss the APTERR activities, focusing on Tier 3 programme implementation to enhance food security in the country.
On 29 October 2024, the APTERR Secretariat team led by Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager, had a great opportunity to welcome delegates from the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) of Myanmar to the APTERR Secretariat.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, welcomed representatives from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), namely Ms. Nora Hobbs, the new WFP Regional Nutrition Advisor, and Mr. Arvind Betigeri, the Regional Food Fortification Advisor, for a meeting to explore potential cooperation on rice fortification to enhance nutrition support in times of emergency.
