ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
Representatives from the APTERR Secretariat visited Myanmar during 12-13 December 2016 to discuss and exchange views and experiences with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to enhance a mutual understanding about the APTERR activities as well as update the food security and disaster- affected situations in Myanmar.
The APTERR field trip on rice cultivation and logistic system in Thailand was held for all staff members to learn and gain experiences for improving APTERR operations by visiting the Rice Seed Centre and the Laemchabang Port in Chonburi province as well as the Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Centre and the Wangkaset Garden in Chanthaburi province from 28 to 30 November 2016.
The handover ceremony and actual distribution of 60 –MT rice were conducted on 29 October 2016 in Tbong Khmom and Prey Veng provinces in Cambodia. There were representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Cambodia led by Minister H.E. Veng Sakhon together with APTERR Council from Cambodia and Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Agriculture (GDA), MAFF Dr. Chan Phaloeun, local officers as well as the APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Chanpithya Shimphalee participating in the significant event.
The handover ceremony and actual distribution of 150 –MT rice were conducted on 11 August 2016 with the aims of helping people affected from prolonged drought in Takeo and Svay Rieng provinces in Cambodia. This APTERR rice is a part of 210-MT rice donated by the Government of Japan through APTERR Tier 3 programme
The Ceremonial Turn-Over of 240-MT rice donated by the Government of Japan through APTERR Tier 3 programme to help people affected by typhoon Melor (Nona) was conducted on 24 May 2016 in Catarman in Province of Northern Samar, the Philippines.
