ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

On 5 September 2018, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee together with Japanese expert Mr. Toshiharu Toeda and Head of Implementation sub-division Ms. Jansinee Kankaew, attended the ceremonial distribution of 52.50 MT rice contributed by Japan to support people affected by heavy monsoon floods in Tanintharyi region.

 

During the ceremony, Chief Minister of Tanintharyi region Dr. Lei Lei Maw shared an update on the flood situation and thanked Japan and the APTERR for providing the rice assistance to the people in affected areas. Representatives from various agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar led by Deputy Director-General of Department of Agriculture (DOA) and the APTERR Council member Mr. Aye Ko Ko, local officers as well as the media, also attended in this significant event.

 

Since July 2018, the Tanintharyi region has already faced heavy floods three times. Due to the climate change, this year floods are more severe than before. This 52.50-MT rice will be allocated to more than 5,000 beneficiaries in 19 villages in Tanintharyi region with an amount of 10 kg/person.
