Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, and Dr. Ye Tint Tun, Director General of Department of Agriculture (DOA) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) of Myanmar, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the implementation of APTERR’s pre-positioned programme under the Republic of Korea’s 3,000-MT rice contribution for FY 2024, on 21 November 2024 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The event was attended by Mr. Thura Soe, Deputy Director General of DOA and the APTERR Council member, along with the representatives from MOALI.
Dr. Ye Tint Tun expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Korean government for their continued contribution support in strengthening food security in Myanmar. He also extended his appreciation to the APTERR Secretariat for its unwavering efforts to safeguard food security in the country.
The 3,000-MT rice contributed by Korea will be pre-positioned in Myanmar for emergency response preparedness under Tier 3 FY 2024. During the 12-month stockpile period, the rice will be released in providing a swift response to address disastrous calamities. If no emergency occurs, the rice will be utilised for poverty alleviation after the stockpile period ends.
The MoA serves as a fundamental guideline for ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of Tier 3 programme in Myanmar, fully aligned with in APTERR’s Rules and Procedures.
