Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, participated in the handover of 200-MT rice contributed by the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China) in Mandalay Region, Myanmar on 22 November 2024.
During the event, Dr. Karnjanakesorn discussed and received updates on the APTERR rice distribution with the representatives from Myanmar’s Department of Agriculture (DOA) of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, led by Mr. Toe Min, Director of Rice Division along with the local officials.
Mandalay Region is among the areas hardest hit by heavy monsoonal floods and Super Typhoon Yagi. The 200-MT rice from P.R. China will bolster food security for approximately 58,488 beneficiaries across the region. The Myanmar government expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for playing a pivotal role in supporting this humanitarian programme under Tier 3 in Myanmar as well as the APTERR Secretariat for its support in facilitating the assistance.
In addition to this 200-MT rice assistance, the Chinese government has continually provided another 500 MT to be pre-positioned in Myanmar for emergency response preparedness under Tier 3 pre-positioned programme for FY 2024 for enhancing food security in the country.
