Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manger of the APTERR Secretariat, attended the handover of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea to assist people affected by severe floods and landslides in Bago Region, Myanmar. The disastrous calamities were a result of relentless monsoonal downpours and impacts of Super Typhoon Yagi
The event took place on 20 November 2024 with representatives from Myanmar’s Department of Agriculture (DOA) of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Bago regional government and the intended beneficiaries in attendance.
The Bago regional government expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Korean government for their generous rice contribution, which helped alleviate the hardship faced by those affected by catastrophic calamities. They also extended their thanks to the APTERR Secretariat for facilitating this assistance.
The 250-MT rice distribution will provide vital support to about 68,563 people across 15 affected townships in Bago Region including those stayed in the evaluation camps across the region. This rice is a part of Korea’s 750 -MT rice contribution under Tier 3 FY 2023, aimed at providing immediate relief to people affected by devasting floods and landslides in Myanmar.
The APTERR Secretariat has been working closely with the DOA to ensure the effectiveness and transparence of the rice distribution to reach those most in need during this challenging times.
