ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
The APTERR Secretariat led by Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat participated the ceremonial handover and actual distribution of the Republic of Korea (ROK)’s rice assistance hosted by the National Food Authority (NFA) led by Mr. Roderico R. Bioco, Administrator in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local governmental units led by Mr. Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan, Governor of Northern Samar on 27 February 2024 in Northern Samar in Region 8, the Philippines.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, accompanied by Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI and Ms. Sita Kumpol, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, inspected 750 MT of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea through a pre-positioned stockpiled system under Tier 1 to the Philippines at the National Food Authority (NFA)-Owned GID II Warehouse in a Province of Batangas on 26 February 2024.
Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, together with his secretary Ms. Sita Kumpol joined the representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, consisting of Mr. Norikazu Suzuki, State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr. Kenichi Hirano, Director of Grain Trade and Operation Division, Mr. Kenji Okuhira, Director of Grain Quality Assurance Office and Mr. Toshiki Tojo, Deputy Director of Grain Trade and Operation Division, visited Pateros Elementary School in Pateros, the Philippines on 22 February 2024 to evaluate the implementation of the ‘School Distribution Programme (SDP)’ introduced by Japan to support APTERR’s Tier 3 programme.
On 10 January 2024, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat along with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, warmly welcomed Mr. Kenichi Hirano, Director of Grain Trade and Operation Division, Crop Production Bureau, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan to the APTERR Secretariat office in Bangkok, Thailand.
Japan’s new initiative ‘School Distribution Programme (SDP)’ under Tier 3 was first released to 1,953 beneficial students at Pateros Elementary School and Child Development Centers in the Philippines for enhancing food security.
