ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
A total of 500 MT of rice contributed by the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China) under APTERR Tier 3 was officially handed over on 10-11 June 2025 to assist people affected by the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, Myanmar.
The APTERR Secretariat, led by General Manager (GM) Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, participated in the handover ceremonies of the Republic of Korea’s 3,000-MT rice contribution under APTERR Tier 3 to strengthen food security for those affected by the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. The ceremonies were conducted in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay on 10-11 June 2025.
On 5 April 2025, the APTERR Council urgently approved a release of 3,500 MT of rice under Tier 3 programme to support emergency relief efforts in Myanmar in the wake of the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake striking the country. The rice assistance comprises contributions from the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China) for 500 MT and the Republic of Korea (ROK) for 3,000 MT.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, along with the Secretariat team, inspected 3,000 MT of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea through the pre-positioned stockpiled rice system under Tier 3 at the warehouse in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 10 March 2025.
On 3 February 2025, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information, and Ms. Passawee Sumalu, Administrative Staff, attended the ceremonial turnover and actual distribution of 4,000 MT of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea through Tier 3 pre-positioned programme in the municipality of Laurel, Batangas province, the Philippines.
