ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve 

Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, welcomed Mr. Kenichi Hirano, Director of Grain Trade and Operation Division, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF-Japan), to the APTERR Secretariat office on 2 July 2024 for discussions on the Tier 1 and Tier 3 programmes. 

 

Ms. Kittima Jintanasonti, Plan and Policy Analyst, Senior Professional Level and Ms. Nuttanin Trichairat, Plan and Policy Analyst, Professional Level, from the Office of Agricultural Economics, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand, also attended the discussion to exchange views on Japan’s new initiative, the ‘Rice Storage Hub Project (Tier 3 FLEX).’ This new initiative aims to establish a stockpiled rice hub in the specific country to serve the ASEAN member states with a flexible response to requests for a support of small and medium-sized disasters.

 

 

Apart from APTERR’s activities, Mr. Hirano MAFF-Japan updated on the upcoming 13th Meeting of APTERR Council hosted by Japan in February 2025.
