On 16 September, the 7th ASEAN-China Agricultural Cooperation Forum was held in Nanning city, Guangxi, the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China). The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of P.R. China and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region while it was also attended by distinguished delegates from the ASEAN Member States (AMS) plus P.R. China.

Mr. Ni Hongxing, DG-level Counsel of the Department of International Cooperation, MARA, P.R. China, and the current APTERR Council from P.R. China, invited distinguished delegates from the AMS and agriculture-related organisations to deliver their speech under the theme of “Deepening Agricultural Cooperation to Create New Growth Drivers: Opportunities and Challenges for ASEAN-China Agricultural Development in the Post-Pandemic Era.
In this regard, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat took this great opportunity to present the role of APTERR and its activities in response to emergency requirement since the period of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic to the ‘Post-Pandemic Era’.
Furthermore, Dr. Karnjanakesorn highlighted the occurrence of El Nino which have been threatening food security in Asia and Pacific, including ASEAN Plus Three (APT) region since June 2023. Although the El Nino is expected to last until the early of 2024, its effect could cause damage in agricultural and food production until 2029. According to the abovementioned disasters, Dr. Karnjanakesorn emphasised the essential preparedness with cooperation among various stakeholders in order to reduce adverse impact and strengthen swift resilience in the time of emergency to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
