Asean Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve 

Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, led the APTERR staff members to pay a courtesy call on H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 8 August 2023 during a trip to attend the ceremonial handover of APTERR rice contributed by Japan to assist flood and COVID-19 affected people in Cambodia.

The GM of the APTERR Secretariat was grateful for a very warm welcome and took this opportunity to introduce the organisation as well as the APTERR activities including the programme implemented in Cambodia. The discussion was productive and fruitful with an information exchange on food security situations and current rice market updates of Cambodia, ASEAN region, and the world. Both sides emphasised an important role of APTERR in ensuring food security amid the disastrous calamities as well as for poverty alleviation. The APTERR successfully demonstrated a concrete action of the ASEAN member states in strengthening food security and humanitarian response in the region.

 

 

 

The representatives from the Thai Embassy attending this meeting included Ms.Ek-on Khunacharoen, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Nirawat Rangseekanjana, Minister Counsellor (Commercial), Mr. Chonlatis Tapyos, Counsellor (Commercial) and Ms. Varintorn Thanvichen, First Secretary while the APTERR team consisted of Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Jansinee Kankaew, Head of Implementation, and Ms. Natthavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI.
