Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat accompanied with Mr.Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Jansinee Kankaew, Head of Implementation Sub Division, and Ms. Sita Kumpol, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar on 29 June 2023 at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.
APTERR Secretariat discussed the humanitarian issues with representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Myanmar, namely H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, Mr. Ittimon Sumitpaibul, Second Secretary, and Mr. Witchu Sophana, Second Secretary.
Dr. Karnjanakesorn provided an overview of APTERR and its roles on enhancing food security in ASEAN Plus Three, particularly in Myanmar. He further informed about APTERR’s current activities in providing 554-MT rice assistance contributed by the Republic of Korea through Tier 3 to people affected by destructive Cyclone Mocha in Rakhine state.
Both sides had fruitful discussions and information sharing on Myanmar’s humanitarian situation update. While humanitarian needs stimulated by the severe impacts of Cyclone Mocha have been continually growing, the APTERR Secretariat has committed to work closely with the member countries in delivering more humanitarian aid to support those affected in Myanmar.
