Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Staff for Implementation as the representative from the APTERR Secretariat, attended the Disaster Resilience Week’s side event, which jointly organised the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), to celebrate UNOSAT’s 20 years of satellite imagery applications for enhanced disaster resilience on 26 August 2021 via teleconference.
At the event, the experts from several international agencies presented past achievements and future perspectives in utilising the satellite imagery for disaster risk management, digital innovations, modern technologies, and any challenges that need to be address to the wide range of audiences to see the comprehensive scenarios of geospatial information trends and its benefits, especially in providing timely evidences and insights for responding to disasters.
UNOSAT’s geospatial information is very useful for the APTERR Secretariat in monitoring and assessing natural disasters that occurred in APTERR member countries to support the APTERR’s programmes implementation for safeguarding food security during the emergency.
This event was organised during UNESCAP’s third Disaster Resilience Week from 23 - 27 August 2021 under the theme ‘Building back better after COVID-19: addressing cascading risks and systemic gaps for resilient people and economies.
