Tier 3 rice to tropical cyclone-affected people in the Philippines under Japan’s 560-MT contribution

Hundreds of people witnessed the significant ceremonial distribution of 560 MT of rice contributed by the Government of Japan to people affected by tropical cyclones INENG (BAILU) and JENNY (PODUL) through APTERR Tier 3 programme.

This ceremony was taken placed in Laoage, Illocos Norte on 5 October 2919. There were about 200 beneficiaries and a number of representatives including Administrator Judy Carol L. Dansal of the National Food Authority (NFA), Undersecretary Danilo G. Pamonag of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Minister Masahiro Nakata of the Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and General Manager Chanpithya Shimphalee of the APTERR Secretariat as well as the municipality mayors of Illocos Norte and Pangasinan provinces, participating in this crucial event.

This rice will be distributed to 78,972 affected-people in Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan provinces where badly hit by the two tropical cyclones in last August to minimise their suffering and strengthen food security in those affected areas.
