The APTERR Secretariat team received a warm welcome from Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) Dr. Soe Tun and his team during a visit to the MRF office in Yangon, Myanmar on 30 June 2023 to discuss about country’s rice situation update.
Vice Chairman of the MRF Dr. Soe Tun updated the meeting on Myanmar’s rice situation.
GM of the APTERR Secretariat Dr. Karnjanakesorn gave a brief information on APTERR activities.
The meeting was presided by Dr. Soe Tun and attended by representatives from the MRF, the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar led by Director U Zaw Lin together with Deputy Director San Tun Win and Staff Officer of Rice Division in-charge of APTERR activities in Myanmar Dr. Yin Min Htun, and the APTERR Secretariat including the GM, Japanese Expert Mr. Akinori Ando, Head of Implementation Sub Division Ms. Jansinee Kankaew, Secretary to the Japanese Expert and Ms. Sita Kumpol.

Besides an update on Myanmar’s current rice situation, this trilateral meeting also discussed in great details the ways for effectively implementing the FY 2023 Tier 3 programme under China’s in-cash contribution to enhance food security in Myanmar. Under the contribution, Myanmar led by the DOA will purchase a local rice to store in their designated warehouse for emergency response in the country.
