ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve 

The APTERR Secretariat, led by General Manager (GM) Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, participated in the official handover ceremony of the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China)’s 50-MT rice contribution under the APTERR Tier 3 programme. Held at the Muang Songkhla District Office on 22 June 2026, the ceremony marked the delivery of rice assistance to support the ongoing recovery of flood-affected communities in Songkhla Province, Thailand following the catastrophic flooding last year.

 

 

The ceremony brought together representatives from the Government of P.R. China, led by Mr. Wang Zhijian, Consul-General of P.R. China in Songkhla, the Songkhla Provincial authorities, led by Mr. Prateep Ueyjeon, Deputy Governor of Songkhla Province, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, led by Dr. Karnjana Kwanmuang, Deputy Secretary-General of OAE, as well as representatives from the affected districts.

 

 

Dr. Choomjet reaffirmed APTERR’s unwavering commitment to solidarity and support. He emphasised that the APTERR remains dedicated to assisting Songkhla throughout its recovery journey, ensuring that affected communities receive sustained support to rebuild their livelihoods and strengthen their resilience against future disasters.

 

 

To ensure the assistance effectively supports local recovery and rehabilitation efforts, the APTERR Secretariat is working closely with the OAE and the Songkhla Provincial authorities, to distribute the rice to affected households across the province, who are still recovering from the disaster.
