The APTERR Secretariat led by Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert together with Ms. Kolanya Thammapattarakul, Head of Finance Sub-Division, and Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI participated in the handover ceremony of 2 MT (400 cartons) of pre-cooked rice to flood-affected people in Prasat Sombour district, Kampong Thom province, Cambodia on 27 October 2023.
Ms. Sin Sophorn, Deputy Director-General of General Directorate of Agriculture (GDA) of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) warmly welcomed the APTERR team to the ceremony. In this regard, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the APTERR, and the Government of Japan for unwavering support to Cambodian people through the pre-cooked rice assistance under the Tier 3 pre-positioned programme. In particular, this was the first time for the implementation of Japan’s initiative ‘pre-cooked rice’ in Cambodia after it had been implemented in Myanmar, and the Philippines. At the ceremony, the MAFF official also demonstrated how to simply cook the pre-cooked rice to the beneficiaries for clearly understanding.
Each carton of the pre-cooked rice was handed to 400 households affected by severe flash flood. The pre-cooked rice was not only a successful initiative of Japan to improve the APTERR’s Tier 3 programme but also quickly respond to the needs of people in time of emergency. Earlier, 300-MT milled rice contributed by Japan was released to people affected by floods and prolonged COVID-19 in the provinces of Takeo, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, and Prey Veng for safeguarding food security in Cambodia.
