The handover ceremony and actual distribution of 60 –MT rice were conducted on 29 October 2016 in Tbong Khmom and Prey Veng provinces in Cambodia. There were representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Cambodia led by Minister H.E. Veng Sakhon together with APTERR Council from Cambodia and Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Agriculture (GDA), MAFF Dr. Chan Phaloeun, local officers as well as the APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Chanpithya Shimphalee participating in the significant event.

Veng Sakhon together with APTERR Council from Cambodia and Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Agriculture (GDA), MAFF Dr. Chan Phaloeun, local officers as well as the APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Chanpithya Shimphalee participating in the significant event.

The rice was a part of 210-MT rice donated by the Government of Japan through APTERR Tier 3 programme to be stored in the GDA’ s warehouses.During the stockpile period, 150 MT of rice was released to help people affected by drought in Takeo, Svay Rieng, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat in August 2016.

After a termination of the stockpile period, Cambodia through the GDA requested the APTERR Secretariat for the release of remaining 60-MT rice for poverty alleviation in Cambodia. The 60-MT of rice was allocated to 600 families in Dambae District in Tbong Khmon and 600 families from Peam Ro and Kamong Trabek Districts in Svay Rieng province. Each household would receive a 50-kg rice bag.
