ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

The APTERR Secretariat has considered the human resources development as one of essential key elements to support the achievement of the APTERR’s goals in strengthening food security in the ASEAN+3 region.  Thus, the field study on an applied agriculture for sustainability was conducted during 29 - 31 August 2022 to provide the concrete understanding and sharpen competencies of its staff toward this issue.

The group visited the Tha Makham Natural Agricultural Center in Kanchanaburi. Mrs. Tiwaporn Sriworakul, Director of the Centre, gave a warm welcome to the APTERR staff along with introducing a background and activities of her organisation. The group gained concrete understanding about rice pest elimination by using Thai herb, organic farming as well as producing oil from waste plastic. Due mainly to the climate changes nowadays, sustainable agricultural practice and eco-friendly agricultures increasingly are more concerned as it could pose direct impacts to the global food security.

Besides, the APTERR staff went to Tiger Cape Temple, a famous Thai-Chinese architecture temple, to see breathtaking scenarios together with observe rice cultivation areas along the Khao Laem Dam. Also, the field trip’s route contained a site visit to Mallika R.E. 124, Thai Heritage Town, to experience the development of Thai agriculture, people’s livelihood, arts and culture.
