Meeting on the extension of Tier 1 between the Philippines and Japan offers a solution to safeguard food security
The APTERR Secretariat organised and facilitated the 1st meeting on an extension of the Tier 1 programme between the Philippines and Japan on 25 June 2021 via teleconference for a purpose of discussing on the important issues related the extension of the Tier 1 programme which will be terminated in coming October 2021.
Representatives from the National Food Authority (NFA) of the Philippines led by Administrator Atty. Judy Carol L. Dansal, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan led by Director of Grain Trade and Operation Division Dr. Hideki Hagiwara, and the APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, participated in this significant meeting.
All parties shared their concerned views together with the useful information in preparing for the extension of the Tier 1 programme in the near future. Besides, the meeting wished that the implementation of Tier 1 between the Philippines and Japan would encourage other APTERR members to participate more in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 programmes in order to prevent food insecurity during unanticipated emergencies especially caused by natural disasters. The 2rd meeting on the extension of the Tier 1 programme will be held on 21 July 2021.
