The Rice Inspection and Small Meeting in Lao PDR
General Manager, Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee together with Head of Implementation, Ms. Jansinee Kankaew and Staff for Implementation, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum visited Vientiane, Lao PDR during 29 – 30 July 2019, for completing a rice inspection of 500-MT rice under Tier 3 programme contributed by the Republic of Korea (ROK). On this occasion, the APTERR Secretariat held a small meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) to discuss on the issues related to Tier 3 programme implementation.
The result of the rice inspection shows that ROK’s 500-MT 3 rice is in good condition and safe for human consumption. Therefore, the Lao Government is planning to keep the rice to be ready for providing a prompt assistance to people amid the calamities. The rice will be pre-positioned for 12 months for the emergency situation in subject to the APTERR’s Rules and Procedures. If there is no emergency occurring, the rice can be released for poverty alleviation and/or malnourishment eradication after the termination of stockpile period.
Last year, the ROK also contributed 1,000-MT of rice through Tier 3 programme to help people affected by dam collapse in Attepeu province. The rice distribution carried out by the Lao government in collaboration with the APTERR, was successfully completed in May 2019 in order to support those affected in returning their normalcy.
