ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
The 13th Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan on 19 - 20 February 2025 at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. The meeting aimed to strengthen food security in the region through the APTERR mechanisms.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Jansinee Kankaew, Head of Implementation, and Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI, visited the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand on 28 January 2025 to promote APTERR’s activities, and discuss a possibility to bolster food security in the ASEAN Plus Three region by improving nutrition for emergency rice assistance through rice fortification.
The APTERR Secretariat, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), successfully co-organised a hybrid workshop on ‘Building Resilient Rice Market and Robust Policy Framework in Asia’ on 24 January 2025. The event convened representatives from the APTERR member countries, food security-related organistations, and academic institutions, fostering insightful discussions on strengthening food security and stabilising rice markets through effective policy strategies.
