The APTERR Secretariat delegation was invited to attend the 23rd SSOM-AMAF+3 held in Johor Bahru, in Malaysia on 8 August 2024. The Meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia and attended by ASEAN Member States, the People Republic of China (P.R. China), Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), and other related organisation such as ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, and The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
In this regard, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat has reported the accomplishments and the progress of the on-going implementation programmes since Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 to the meeting. The meeting took noted on the updated progress of Tier 1 programme and the accomplished release of Tier 3 programmes alond with the on-going Tier 3 programmes while also acknowledged the reports published by the Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), especially the new report: Quarterly Update on Food Emergency Monitoring and Information. The meeting expressed sincere gratitude to the donor and recipient countries for their kind contribution and cooperation in APTERR’s Tier 3 programme.
Dr. Karnjanakesorn also informed the meeting on the collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the systemic review of APTERR in order to improve the APTERR’s mechanism. Furthermore, Dr. Karnjanakesorn has highlighted the discussion between APTERR Secretariat and ERIA for ERIA’s preliminary study for exploring ‘Local Resource-Based Food Reserve (LRBFR)’ mechanism in ASEAN Member States. The meeting expressed grateful gratitude and appreciation to the APTERR Secretariat for the effort and cooperation in a support of strengthening food security in the region.
