The APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn warmly welcomed Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s consultant team, Ms. Lourdes Adriano and Dr. Roehlano Briones together with ADB’s senior natural resource and agriculture specialist Mr. Shingo Kimura to the Secretariat office on 19 February 2024 in order to discuss on the ATPERR’s operation and activities.

The outcomes of discussion would be useful for the ADB consultants in assessing and analysing the APTERR’s mechanism and its ways forward to resolve constraints of its operation. Since October last year, the APTERR Secretariat has jointly cooperated with the ADB for improving APTERR’s existing mechanism which had already been established over a decade. Relative this, the ADB has provided a technical assistance to perform a systematic review of APTERR and identify the potential areas of reforms particularly Tier 1, 2 and 3 programmes as well as the Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI).
The ADB consultant team also interviewed various APTERR-related agencies, such as the Office of Agricultural Economics under Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand, the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, and the UN World Food Programme for collect further information in supporting their review which will be presented at the coming 12th APTERR Council Meeting in P.R. China in April 2024.
