ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn together with Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI) Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum and Administrative Staff Ms. Passawee Sumalu participated in the 21st ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Focal Point Meeting on 17 – 18 May 2023 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

 

The aims of the meeting were to update the implementations of the AFSIS projects in 2022, future work plan in 2023, the progress of new technical project (SAFER project), outcomes of bilateral meetings between the AFSIS Secretariat and its member countries as well as collaboration with relevant agencies and to discuss the new AFSIS framework.

 

In this regard, the APTERR Secretariat was invited to present the achievements of the APTERR activities in 2022 – 2023 that related to the AFSIS, and took this opportunity to enhance collaboration with the AFSIS. The meeting emphasised the important role of the APTERR in strengthening food security in the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) countries, and ensured a readiness to provide useful reports on Agricultural Commodities Outlook (ACO), Early Warning Information (EWI), Rice Growing Outlook (RGO), Global Food Crisis and Food Insecurity, and essential data to the APTERR Secretariat for improving its emergency monitoring and assessment.

 

There were several representatives from the APT countries, Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC) and other involved agencies attending the meeting.

  

The 22nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting will be conducted in Putrajaya, Malaysia in 2024.
