Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, led the APTERR team in the meeting with the representatives from the National Food Authority (NFA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) concerning a report on the release of rice assistance in Region VIII, part of 750-MT rice contributed by the Republic of Korea in response to calamities in the Philippines.
The meeting hosted by the NFA Eastern Visayas on 31 July 2024 at its regional office in Pawing, Palo, Leyte. There were representatives from the NFA including Ms. Rosalyn D. Comia, Acting Division Manager and Ms. Buenavel A. Banda, Acting Statistician I of NFA Central Office, Mr. Gerard V. Lim, Acting Regional Manager of NFA Eastern Visayas, Engr. Venus N. Prima, Acting Assistance Regional Manager, Ms. Talitha Thea B. Arpon, NFA Leyte Acting Branch Manager, and Mr. Joeffrey M. Plata, NFA Leyte Acting Assistant Branch Manager, and the DSWD consisting of Ms. Lucia G. Balantad, OIC-Division Chief and Mr. Theo Felices, an official of the Disaster Response Management Division.
The GM of the APTERR Secretariat expressed gratitude to the DSWD for their comprehensive report on the successful distribution of Korea’s rice contribution, assisting 11,750 families affected by severe floods and landslides in Region VIII including the provinces of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar. The meeting also addressed beneficiary feedbacks, highlighting satisfaction with both quality and taste of rice contributed by Korea, and identified challenges in the implementation for future improvements.
part from Region VIII, Korea’s 750-MT rice contribution was also allocated to mitigate sufferings of people affected by strong earthquake in Region XI and XII.
