The APTERR Secretariat team, accompanied with the National Food Authority (NFA) Central Office team, visited the NFA Port Area Warehouse in Tacloban City, Eastern Visayas Region of the Philippines on 31 July 2024 to inspect 300 MT of rice contributed by Japan through Tier 3, pre-positioned in the Philippines in preparing for a swift respond amid disasters.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, and the APTERR staff, discussed and received updates on the maintenance of rice shared by the NFA Eastern Visayas. Dr. Karnjanakesorn expressed his thanks and appreciation to the NFA and its NFA Region 8 for maintaining the rice in good quality since it arrived at the warehouse in March 2024.
300-MT rice is contributed by Japan through the pre-positioned stockpiled system under Tier 3 programme in FY 2023 to ensure a timely rice assistance to people affected by calamities in the Philippines.
Representatives from the NFA including Ms. Rosalyn D. Comia, Acting Division Manager and Ms. Buenavel A. Banda, Acting Statistician I of NFA Central Office, Mr. Gerard V. Lim, Acting Regional Manager of NFA Eastern Visayas, Engr. Venus N. Prima, Acting Assistance Regional Manager, Ms. Talitha Thea B. Arpon, NFA Leyte Acting Branch Manager, and Mr. Joeffrey M. Plata, NFA Leyte Acting Assistant Branch Manager, as well as NFA Regional and Leyte Branch officials, were also present at the inspection.
