The APTERR Secretariat led by Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat participated the ceremonial handover and actual distribution of the Republic of Korea (ROK)’s rice assistance hosted by the National Food Authority (NFA) led by Mr. Roderico R. Bioco, Administrator in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local governmental units led by Mr. Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan, Governor of Northern Samar on 27 February 2024 in Northern Samar in Region 8, the Philippines.
This rice assistance was part of 750 -MT rice contributed by the ROK through the Tier 3 pre-positioned stockpiled system to alleviate people’s struggles from the emergency of back-to-back disasters including widespread floods and landslides caused by Shear Line and Low-Pressure Area in areas of region 8, and series of strong and prolonged earthquakes in Region 11 and Region 12. In Northern Samar, there were 8,750 family beneficiaries receiving this APTERR stocks.
The Philippine government expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Korean government as the donor country and the APTERR Secretariat for a support on rice assistance to those affected in order to return their normalcy.
Representatives from the APTERR Secretariat also included Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI and Ms. Sita Kumpol, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, were also present in the event.
