Asean Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve 

Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, accompanied by Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI and Ms. Sita Kumpol, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, inspected 750 MT of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea through a pre-positioned stockpiled system under Tier 1 to the Philippines at the National Food Authority (NFA)-Owned GID II Warehouse in a Province of Batangas on 26 February 2024.



After receiving a warm welcome from the NFA led by Atty. Marko C. Callanta, Assistant Regional Manager and Mr. Harold D. Cuartero Acting Asst. Branch Manager, the APTERR team observed the rice inspection and updated the rice quality and maintenance with the NFA officials. The result showed that a condition of rice was very good and safe for people’s consumption.



The 750-MT rice had been pre-positioned in the Philippines since December 2023 in preparing for an immediate response to calamities. Recently, the NFA made a request to released the rice for alleviating people’s sufferings from widespread floods and landslides in Region VIII and a series of earthquakes in Region XI and XII.
