On 13 January 2021, the APTERR Secretariat organised the Workshop on Rice Demand and Supply Forecasting and invited the honorable keynote speaker, Dr. Apichart Pongsrihadulchai, the former Vice Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives and the former Chief Advisor to Director-General of Rice Department, to give a discussion and lecturing on forecasting rice situation, especially rice demand and supply.
The workshop was conducted with the aim to improve the Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), one of the crucial supporting tools for the implementation of APTERR programmes, to be more efficient and effective for accessing and monitoring food security in the ASEAN+3 region.
All practical techniques, particularly forecasting techniques, and knowledge received from the workshop will be used as a guideline to enhance the APTERR Secretariat’s capabilities by using FEMI to forecast the rice situation more accurately as well as prepare for unexpected emergencies in the future.
