On 7 October 2016, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat Chanpithya Shimphalee hosted the lunch reception to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Establishment of APTERR at the APTERR Secretariat’s office in Bangkok. There were approximately 50 guests participating in the event, comprising of representatives from ASEAN Plus Three countries’ embassies in Bangkok, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), the Rice Department, the ASEAN Plus Three Food Security Information System (AFSIS) as well as rice-related associations in Thailand.
Five years since the establishment of APTERR under the agreement signed at the 11th ASEAN Plus Three Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF+3) Meeting on 7 October 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia, the APTERR has continually provide rice assistance to the people who suffer from any disasters in many member countries, such as Cambodia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, and Thailand with the total of rice assistance more than 8,000 tons.
Mr. Shimphalee vowed that from now on, the APTERR will be proactive on preparing and providing rice assistance to people in time of their needs during the acute and emergency situation. Tier 1 programme implementation will be strongly promoted in line with development of Tier 3 programme through collaboration with the Asian Development Bank to study on possibility of establishment of regional hub for APTERR rice storage. Furthermore, the APTERR Secretariat will continue working closely with the member countries to carry out the APTERR activities in order to safeguard the region’s food security in time of the emergency and calamity situation.
