The handover ceremony and actual distribution of 150 –MT rice were conducted on 11 August 2016 with the aims of helping people affected from prolonged drought in Takeo and Svay Rieng provinces in Cambodia. This APTERR rice is a part of 210-MT rice donated by the Government of Japan through APTERR Tier 3 programme and has been stored in the General Directorate of Agriculture (GDA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia’ s warehouses located in several provinces in the country.
Due to the GDA’s plan, the distribution of 150-MT rice is divided into two times; 11 August 2016 in Takoe and Svay Rieng provinces for 800 families and 22 August 2016 in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat provinces for 2,200 families.
There were representatives from MAFF, Cambodia led by Secretary of State H.E. Dr. Ty Sokhun, local governments as well as the APTERR Secretariat led by General Manager Chanpithya Shimphalee, participating in the events.
