Regarding Japan’s contribution through the APTERR Tier 3 programme for helping typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines, Mr Renan B. Dalisay, Administrator of the National Food Authority (NFA), invited Mr.Wiroj Saengbangka, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, together with his staff to participate in the ceremonial turn-over of rice donation and actual distribution of rice donation from the Government of Japan in Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan, the Philippines during 5-7 March 2015.

Apart from the mentioned agencies, the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, as a donor country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as well as the Local Government Units (LGUs) of the Philippines also attended in the event.

The actual distribution was carried out by the NFA in coordinated with the DSWD and LGUs. The rice was distributed to the typhoon Haiyan victims through a ‘food for work’ programme. Each beneficiary receives 30kg of rice after they finish 5-day works (6kg./day), such as cleaning-up, rebuilding affected houses, and joining other activities. The distribution was expected to be completed in April 2015.
