The APTERR Secretariat led by Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn visited the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia on 16 August 2022 to enhance cooperation on the APTERR activities. On this special occasion, the team also had great opportunities to meet with H.E. Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat; H.E. Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community; Mr. Ung Srengkong, Director of Corporate Affairs Directorate, Community and Corporate Affairs Department; and other distinguished ASEAN executive officers.
As a vital regional mechanism to ensure food security in the ASEAN Plus Three region, the APTERR Secretariat had a discussion with Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Assistant Director of the Food, Agriculture and Forestry Division under the ASEAN Economic Community Department and his team, Ms. Monica Santosa, on a possibility to explore ASEAN’s supports on the APTERR’s future activities. Both teams also shared the updated information in preparing for the coming SSOM-AMAF+3 Meeting on 24 August 2022.
In addition, Mr. Toshiki Tojo, Japanese Expert of the APTERR Secretariat, introduced Japan’s initiatives; the ‘Pre-cooked Rice Programme’ and the ‘School Distribution Programme’ to support the implementation of Tier 3 programme to be more efficient and accomplish the SDGs on ‘zero hunger’. He also demonstrated how to cook the pre-cooked rice and let the participants to experience the tastes of the pre-cooked rice.
At the discussion, Mr. Yoshiaki Inada, First Secretary of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, was also present in this event.
